Celebrating People Well
Say What It Meant to You
People don’t remember the projects you finished. They remember how you made them feel. A quick “Good job” fades. A personal word of appreciation lasts.
We underestimate how powerful it is to tell someone how their actions made us feel. It’s one thing to say, “Great job running that event.” It’s another to say, “When you ran that event so smoothly, I felt at peace walking into the room. It freed me up to focus on people instead of logistics.”
One speaks to accomplishment. The other speaks to impact. Leaders who connect actions to feelings give their team members a gift: the knowledge that their work doesn’t just check a box, it changes the environment, the culture, and the people around them.
Ask Yourself:
Who on my team has helped lighten my load recently?
Have I told them how their actions made me feel?
What would it sound like if I made that encouragement personal and specific?
Encouragement is the fuel of trust. Don’t save it for the end of the year. Speak it now, while it still has time to grow roots.
