Vision Leaks. Recast It.
If You Don’t Repeat the Why, People Drift to the What
Vision rarely explodes. It erodes. Not because your team lacks passion. Because they are overwhelmed. When the workload increases, people narrow their focus to what’s in front of them. Their department. Their deadlines. Their metrics. Over time, that narrowing creates silos. Here’s where many leaders miss it. They assume that stating the vision once or twice a year is enough.
It’s not.
Recasting vision means:
Connecting today’s challenges to the mission
Showing how current initiatives serve the bigger picture
Reminding people why their work matters
It sounds like:
“In this season of growth, here’s why this matters.”
“As we push through this pressure, here’s what we’re building.”
“When we celebrate this win, here’s what it represents.”
Vision must be woven into:
Updates
Celebrations
Corrections
Closings
Not as a speech. As a rhythm.
Application:
This week, intentionally tie one operational update directly to the mission. Don’t assume people see the connection. Make it explicit.
Ask Yourself:
If I asked my team to articulate our mission in one sentence, could they?
When pressure rises, does the why get louder or quieter?
Am I protecting the vision from slow erosion?
Vision leaks. Your Voice seals it.
